The most important manganese ores are the oxides pyrolusite, romanechite, manganite, hausmannite and the carbonate ore rhodochrosite. Rhodonite and braunite, both silicate ores, are frequently found with oxides. Only ores containing greater than 35 percent manganese are considered commercially exploitable.
